Why calibrated nits matter
A higher nit number on a datasheet is not the same as a better picture on the wall.
Brightness claims are easy to inflate, and published ratings in this category are not independently certified. Here is how Lunar Walls rates brightness — and why our numbers may look lower than a competitor’s while representing a more honest finished wall.

Start with a finished wall
Every MicroLED wall is made of many cabinets. Calibration balances the entire surface to the lowest common denominator so every cabinet matches — one even, uniform image edge to edge. That is the wall you actually live with.
Uncalibrated ratings look brighter on paper
Skip that balancing step and the uncalibrated number almost always climbs. It describes the hottest modules before the wall is evened out — not the uniform canvas on someone’s wall. Comparing that figure to a calibrated rating is not an apples-to-apples comparison.
Overdrive goes further — and costs more
Some manufacturers push even higher by using overdrive. That requires disabling wall calibration (if one was done) and overvolting the panels — like overclocking a CPU — past sustainable drive levels. The result can look punchy in a short demo, but it shortens panel life and can significantly reduce image fidelity. Lunar Walls does not do this.
We publish what we measure
Our nits are calibrated, measured panel output — no overdrive, no inflated marketing figure. Finished Lunar walls typically exceed the published rating by 10–20%. We would rather win on the wall than win on the datasheet.
Then remember what you actually need
Most of the time, maximum brightness is not the goal. We often run Lunar Walls at 50% output or less — even in rooms with windows and ambient light. In a dedicated theater, the target is typically around 100 nits for SDR reference performance. Headroom matters; living at the ceiling does not.

Published specifications are not independently verified
There is no independent body that certifies MicroLED brightness ratings. Manufacturers publish their own numbers, using their own methods.
Because those figures are self-reported, datasheet ratings are not always comparable — and some published specifications are misleading, or do not match what a finished wall delivers. In measurement of installed competitor walls, we have recorded output well below the stated rating.

Lunar Walls publishes conservative, calibrated wall output. Finished Lunar walls consistently meet or exceed the published specification — often by 10 to 20 percent.
